Spoon pendants, made from vintage spoons, and stamped with cool quotes. A little added bling, and voila.....a unique one of a kind necklace!

Spreading the Love!

I just finished these pieces from my Valentines Collection. Not just for Valentines Day, but any day of the year when you want to feel a little loved! All of the  beautiful vintage keys on these necklaces were obtained during my recent trip to England.

     This necklace can be worn short or long!

Cheap and Cheerful Earring Display

The car is packed and I am ready for Christmas show number 2 of the season,  this Saturday! 

I needed another earring display, to show a small group of earrings created with my custom ordered paper beads, and needed to come up with something quickly! So I put this together in just a few minutes with materials that I had on hand.

I had some 1/4 inch thick cork board, which I covered with pages from an old useless book. First, I tore some of the edges, and then I just used a glue stick to glue the pages to the cork board. An old wooden plate/picture stand was used to hold it up. 

Then I used tiny pins to pin the earring cards to the display. It works in great with my very vintagy display that I use for all of my shows. This is also great because the display comes apart, and the stand folds flat for easy packing!

Did I mention I was extremely busy??? I hope to catch up on some of my favorite blog reading very soon.

Winter"s Coming

As the temperature dips lower, and the mornings get frostier, we know that soon enough, the landscape will be a white winter wonderland  of ice and snow. Not that I am a great lover of winter, however, I was inspired by this long, cold season, to create this collection called Holiday Ice.

This collection features chunky statement necklaces, created with vintage chandelier crystals, and accented with Swarovski crystals, and pearls, as well as beautiful vintage  glass beads. 

 Dramatic, glam, diva earrings, not for the faint of heart and certainly enough of a statement on their own. These will be the only accessory you will need for your little black dress!

Glamorous enough for wearing to all those upcoming holiday cocktail parties, yet cool enough to wear casually with a pretty sweater and jeans for a more intimate occasion.

Camp Horizon Fundraiser

Last week I was approached on two different occasions, about donating some of jewelry for a couple of local fundraisers. The first is a big charity auction, with proceed going towards new beds for Camp Horizon, which is a camp for disabled children and their caregivers. I was more than happy to comply, and set about gathering some interesting pieces to create this necklace.

The somewhat heart shaped, brass filigree focal piece was  actually an old clip earring that I took apart. The crystal key charm at the very bottom, is a modern Swarovski addition. 

  There is a fabulous vintage skeleton key that is suspended from a very old circular, metal filigree jewelry finding, which is rare old Mariam Haskell stock.  I also added vintage chains and  corrugated brass beads,

.............and some wonderful vintage uncirculated Swarovski crystals...both the more recognized faceted crystals, as well as the rare matte crystal beads.

Then I decided to design some earrings to go with this necklace.

Winding Down

Things  here, at Hot Rocks Jewellery, are winding down for the holiday season. Now that the Christmas shows are finished, and most of the custom orders are completed, I am looking forward to taking a bit of a break over the holidays. I still have one more custom order to do, and I am done. I even cleaned up the studio last week....which let me tell you...is a MAJOR  job!

I already have thoughts and plans in my head for next years designs, and I am planning on experimenting with a new line...more on that in the New Year!


My Etsy Shop closes for the holidays, on Dec. 12, so if you are planning on making a purchase please hop on over to my little boutique...there are still a few pieces that need homes. Deadline to the USA in time for Christmas is today...but if you live in Canada, there are still a few days left for me to get your Christmas purchase into the mail, and to you in time for the big day.

Catching up!

I feel like I have been gone for a long time! I am finally catching up ater another very successful show on the weekend. The Waldorf Faire was fabulous, and featured some very talented artists. It was a 100% handmade show...which I just love! There were potters, painters, woodworkers, a lady that made fairy dolls, there were felted bags and hair accessories, leather cuffs, one of a kind hand embellished belt buckles,soaps and creams,funky handmade hats, homegrown tea, beautiful dyed silk scarves, and of course some fabulous jewelry.

I am now trying to catch up on my neglected housework!

Now that my Christmas shows are over with for the year, I am having a Christmas Sale, in my Etsy boutique. Everything is 15% off from now until Dec.10. Then I will close my shop up for the holidays, and reopen later in January. So if you are looking for Christmas gifts, there is still time to shop on line and have your purchases mailed out in time for holiday gift giving.

Still waiting for Spring

Yesterday was a day full of wacky weather! The morning started off with wet flurries, yes more snow! By noon hour, it was  alot nicer, and by early afternoon, the sun was even peaking out amongst the clouds.

 However, late afternon, brought loud thunderous rumbling , and ....hail!

Yes, we were getting thunderflurries...and   thunder hail.

 So as I was  unable to get outside and do any gardening, I finished up a custom order, and was very pleased with the results!

 So, I am still waiting for Springs arrival. The weather man tells me that this weekend should bring wonderful, warm, springlike temperatures to our region. I cannot wait!

Getting Ready for a Little Spring Bling Fling!

Lately, I have been preparing for a jewellery party, that my daughter is hosting for me at her home in a few weeks. It is a combined party with the very fun ladies from Buckles and Beads, who create fabulous, unique handmade belt buckles. This should be a really fun event! The ladies in attendance, will get to shop these  pieces, made exclusively for this event, they will also be able to get in on some amazing clearance bargains on Hot Rocks Fall and Winter stock, enjoy refreshments, and a enter a door prize! If it is successful, I would love to make it an annual party.  I decided to call  it the Spring Bling Fling! This event is being held on April 14. Then in early May, I am attending the Okotoks Market Square festival, and of course in June, the much anticipated Vintage Chicks Show, in Priddis. I  am also taking some fresh designs  to the boutique, Chateau Country Lace this Saturday. I have been busy, which hopefully explains the lack of posts lately! So here is a little sneak preview of some of the pieces that I have designed exclusively for the Spring Bling Fling Party:
