Family Visit

My brother and his young son just left after a week long visit here from England. I had not seen them for 11 years! It was fun, we had some very cold weather but we still had a nice visit and tried to give them a great Canadian winter experience. We went to a couple of NHL hockey games to see the Calgary Flames, as they are huge hockey fans, and follow the games on T.V overseas. The weather warmed up on Saturday, and we went skating on a lake outside and had our own impromptu family hockey game.

 My nephew had only skated a couple of times, but soon caught on and had a great time.

My youngest granddaughter is also just learning to skate. Here she is with my daughter trying to get involved in the game.

I too was shooting the pucks, and keeping up with the kids...but no one took pictures of me!
We also braved yesterdays cold and donned our snow shoes and went  snowshoeing around our property. You can see how bundled up my brother and nephew are. In the open areas, the snow was about 3 feet deep! Our snow shoes kept us from sinking down deep in the snow, and we were able to get around easily. I did not realize how deep the snow was back there. We soon worked up a sweat, and got in some good exercise.

 I also had my husband barbecue a couple of meals for us out on the gas grill in minus 25 degree temps! It was a quick visit, but nice to reconnect. Our family is going to England for a long vacation this summer, when I will be able to visit with my other siblings that I also have not seen for several years. Pin It

Don't laugh!

My husband is getting fed up with snowblowing our driveway! Yes, on Sunday, we awoke to another 28cm or11 inches MORE snow on the ground! My folks are coming over from England on Wednesday for a holiday, and I don't think they have ever seen so much snow in their lives! My husband and I decided we would have a "pool", where our family and friends can guess the date when all the snow will be gone at the tree line in our back yard. All who wish to submit a guess will hand over five dollars, and the winner wins all the cash! My guess is May 27th. Oh, and the weather forecast is predicting another 10cm or 4 inches on Wednesday! I think I will just hunker down and work on some jewelery. Pin It

Snow Day

In my last post, I mentioned that we were experiencing more snowfall, and I was dreaming of the west coast. Well it snowed all day last Thursday, and then into the night. We awoke Friday morning to a very wintery sight, about a foot and a half of snow everywhere, plus we had no power! It is funny how we all of a sudden fall apart, when the electricity is gone. No dishwasher, no washing machine, of course no lights, music or T.V, but most importantly...no coffee and no blow dryer! After my husband used the snow blower to clear our long winding driveway, and the snow plow cleared the roads, we drove into town and filled up on breakfast bagels and fresh brewed coffee, from the coffee shop. We brought back hot coffee and tea to our neighbour as well, and my husband continued to clear her driveway and another neighbours' as well. Apparently a large spruce tree had come down in our area, and fallen into the power lines, resulting in the loss of elecricity to all the acreages in our vicinity. Finally, the power came back on about noon, and life went back to normal once again. My thoughts did wander, to how people must have lived a hundred years ago, and how different their daily routine was, compared to ours, and how we take electricity for granted, until you don't have it! Cold and snowy Spring in the Rockies

On Friday we left home and drove about an hour and a half through a Springtime blizzard to Banff, to take the family skiing! Needless to say the drive was a bit nerve wracking, with extremely poor visibility at times, but we made it in one piece. The weather was unseasonably cold in Banff for this time of year, and there was a ton of freshly fallen snow! My husband kept commenting on how pretty everything looked, and it did look like a winter wonderland, especially at night with the lights sparkling on the snow. However, I think I would have been more appreciative, had it been December, or January even! Spring just doesn't really happen here in my neck of the woods. We just go from Winter to Summer. Anyhow, in light of the weather, I thought I would feature these two fresh cool designs in white this week.
