January blues

I don't like January. January is after Christmas and New Years, when everything is wonderful, colorful, happy and full of good cheer. January to me is cold, dark, depressing and boring. Every year I feel the same, and I cannot wait to see the back end of January 31st! To me, January represents the depths of winter where everything is hidden and dead beneath the snow and ice. My calendar is always empty in January...nothing penciled in, in those little squares. The rush and excitement of Christmas craft sales, and custom orders are over, the days seem empty and time seems to move much more slowly. Summer seems so far away.......

My plans for this month are to start my Spring line of jewelry. I have had ideas and inspirations swirling in my head over the past several weeks. Visions of fresh pretty colors, vibrant hues and seaside dreams have danced in my head! I have been ordering new supplies, and the packages of sparkly beads, gems and silver have started to arrive. I am looking forward to getting back in the studio and creating some new designs!

It is dark and cold (especially this year!) but its also REALLY nice to have time again to think and to get to be creative again after all the busy busy busy of the holiday season.

You are so right...that is one good thing about this time of year, lots of time to get creative!

I like to do home improvements in January and February. A fresh coat of paint or some re-arranging always help brighten the mood. I'm tired of January and it just began!

I hear ya'! January ~ blah! Too much snow ~ too cold!

You're right...one goes from being busy and excited about the holidays to a screaching hault with nothing to look forward too and it's bitter outside to boot. I think that doing your spring jewelry designs sounds like a fabulous idea!

Your very right. I feel myself growing more impatient at work during the winter and even sadder when I finally leave and it's dark. DARK!!! I see no light of day in the winter and it blows. Spring thoughts are much pined for- can't wait to see photos.

I don't like January either but only because it's the start of my tax season. I do love all the Valentines things out already though cause I love the colors and hearts!

I'm a weirdo on this one... probably because I think too far ahead. Even though I don't care for the shorter days and longer nights, I like January because it means the days are starting to get longer. I dislike June because it means the days start getting shorter. (Yes, June depresses me a little...see, I'm a weirdo.)

Although it is cold and "boring" in January, I am always relieved when the holidays are over and my time is my own again! Happy New Year!

Lin, you are right, color, especially a fresh coat of paint will always make things fresh and happy!
Catherine, my fellow Canuck, I know YOU of all people know how winter drags on!!
Sundown, yes, from Decembers busy time to Januarys quiet, is a bit of an adjustment for sure!
Nancy, I cannot wait for Spring either!
BeadedTail, yes Valentines day with its colorful red hearts certainly is a nice reprieve in winter.
Jenn, that IS a bit weird! Never quite thought of it that way!
Split Rock, having the time to yourself is always a nice change after all the holiday guests have gone home.

I'm not trying to gain new readers to my other blog, but I recently did a post on how to cope with the post holiday blues. My other blog is http://ClinicallyClueless.blogspot.com. It is very different than the blog that you see.

Hang in there...it is a tough time for many, including myself.

I couldn't agree with you more. january is the absolute most depressing month of the year. I always get a post craft show let down and have to force myself to be creative again. I hope you get the inspiration you need and if you find it please send some my way.

hmmmm...I think I hate winter as much as you do. Too bad we both live in areas that makes winter inevitable!

I agree, it's going to be a long wait for the summer months, but it always ends up being here before you know it. At least you have some fun supplies coming, nothing makes me happier than new supplies to get the creative juices flowing!

So true! And my birthday is in early January after all the hustle and bustle of the holidays is through. Ugh, where's spring?
